Beach Drive

  • Beach Drive, 2009 by Cape May artist Patricia Rainey. My parents stayed in the Sea Mist with me in 1968, when I was a baby. There's a funny story featuring my mom & dad, about fishing off the jetty across the street. If you see me out, ask! I'll tell you the Legend of the Stringer full of fish.

What is your name, and where do you live?

    Audrey, Cape May, NJ

  • What is the title, who is the creator, and where did you purchase it?

Beach Drive, by Patricia Rainey. I bought it from her at the West Cape May Strawberry Festival.

  • What first drew you to the item and has that sentiment changed in any way?

I wanted something small and iconic of Cape May, and had been wanting a piece from Patrica for a long time. Though it wasn't pricey at all, I treasure it! Patricia has been an artist in town for a long time, and I admire her dedication to her craft. If you haven't seen her booth at shows, you are missing out.

  • Does this item fit with other parts of your collection, or is it different for you?

Cape May is a theme in our collection, so it fits nicely.

One of the shelves in our living room with collected items. The cup & saucer was a gift from my dad & his wife Mary from when they visited Egypt, and the dancing figures are from Spain, a gift from Chef Tony Perez, who I worked for when I lived in Tulsa. The colors in all of these objects are similar, so pairing was natural.

  • Where do you display or use it?

It is in our living room, on a shelf with other collected objects. It's small but impactful and reminds me of my favorite place.
