I took liberties to soften the colors and simplify details of our outdoor mall’s Victorian architecture and allowed the greens of the trees to dominate. The varied pinks and orange tones on the ground indicate the brick sidewalks. The blue-grey building at the far left almost blends in with the sky, moving your eyes back into the scene. The close cropping of the fountain’s basin de-emphasizes that element while still providing action. A few figures indicate the area’s popularity and help to move your eyes around the painting.
