When I started this (about 30 seconds in) Bruce had asked me if I was painting a seashell.  Literally I had started with a spiral on the left side of the canvas, so at that point it could have been a seashell, but it was a cool day, and I wanted to paint a flower or something outside.  Several hours later I had completed the cabbage, had outlined the radish, and had a couple of layers of the soil in place.  After looking at the piece again I decided to make the soil much darker but not with solid strokes, to help contrast with the vegetables. It did take quite some time, but I think overall I am quite pleased with this painting.
