Everyone’s favorite arcade game was invented in the early 1900’s in Vineland, NJ. The original alley was over 30 feet long and marketed to bars as a diversion for men. After many years of low sales, less than enthusiastic popularity, and an adjustment to shorten the alley to 8-10 feet, Skee-Ball became a sensation both at the Jersey shore and elsewhere. Who hasn’t reveled in the heat of competition to win the most tickets and the biggest prize?

This painting’s perspective from the vantage point of the player, right next to their siblings or friends so that competition is inevitable. The roll is looking promising, heading toward the ramp that allows the ball to “Skee”. I chose the earliest color scheme I could find for the game as a nod to its historic contribution to arcades and Jersey shore fun.
