I painted this scene quite some time ago, while I was thinking of a particular person that I knew was struggling. The scene depicts clouds clearing after a storm, but it is clearly about Hope. The golden tones in the sand and the footprints in it represent all of the people in one’s life. They are echoed in the stripe of gold that represents not just the Delaware shore opposite Cape May, but far away also. The dark blue water is mostly cold and solid by comparison. The froth of sea foam is the last barrier that is trying to keep this person from sacrificing all that they have. 
 
My mindset at this time was to be supportive without being everything and everyone to my friend. We had many pointed talks about allowing others to contribute to healing and future happiness. Clearly going through this time with my friend affected me in a deep way, and I channeled my feelings into this piece.
