I painted this from my imagination, hoping to capture the feeling one experiences when they receive a bouquet. I pushed the colors and saturation in the orange & purple petals as well as in the table to make it appear more solid. The elliptical shape of the vase is what I consider to be the modern element of this painting. I had planned on another color for the pale ranunculus flowers, but during the process I used a paler version of the orange. I like the contrast of the cooler tones of the subject and the warmer tones in the supporting areas.
